Spike Lavender essence is obtained from the Lavandula spica plant, also known as spike lavender or playful lavender. Although it shares the Lavandula genus with common lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Lavandula spica has some differences in its chemical composition and aromatic characteristics. Here are some of the common chemical components found in spike lavender essence:

  • Linalool: This is one of the main components in both lavender and spike lavender. It provides a sweet and floral aroma, and has relaxing and soothing properties.
  • 1,8-cineole (Eucalyptol): Present in various aromatic plants, 1,8-cineole may have beneficial properties for the respiratory system.
  • Camphor: Although in smaller amounts than in other species of lavender, the presence of camphor can contribute to the aromatic profile and have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Borneol: A terpene that may have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
  • Ocimene: Contributes to the aroma and may have antimicrobial properties.
  • Limonene: A common terpene in many citrus essential oils, which adds a citrusy touch to the aroma and may have refreshing properties.

Spike Lavender essence is used in aromatherapy and perfumery for its floral and herbaceous aroma. It can also be found in personal care and wellness products. As always, it is important to follow recommended usage directions and consider any potential sensitivity or allergic reaction before applying essential oils to the skin.
